with the newest release that became even worse as you now have scanning range to contend with as well, so those small fleets are even harder to find. assuming you do everything right in starsector and hit 1 ship or small pirate fleets and don't get ganked you are looking at 5 to 6 hours of play before you get to what the game is all about. That said, the idea behind starsector is the cool fleet combat but you start with just one massively underpowered ship in a galaxy populated by fleets. Yeah, i see your point and I agree: the idea to progress over time is a given. If you enjoy the "grind", it won't feel like a grind. You start as a noob pilot in a noobship, don't be expecting to be a hero. ** Re the grind, ultimate this genre (spacesims) and RPGs in general, involve a progression of growing in strength.

So, my view of it is limited to the Vanilla edition as the devs release it, if you mod it, I am sure you get a heck of a lot more gameplay out of it!

I have not touched the mods myself but I watch Let's Play series which has, and it can already extend it a lot. The beauty is it gets better over time too with further updates. You will have the best time for ~20 hours you ever will have for a space combat game. But I guess that is again, due to its unfinished state, as combat has received the greatest attention and it shows. The trading system and dynamic economies also felt very weak, the universe non-responsive, things don't seem to matter how you trade or smuggle. The "alpha" or "unfinished" state of it hit me like a brick. It's like a galore-fest of tactical possibilities and that was why I had so much fun. The complexity with equip choices, firing arcs, customization with addons and the in-battle tactical options due to the shield facing mechanics, flux management linked to shields/firepower, engine damage, EMP damage, unique ship abilities, and that's just for YOU, not counting your fleet!!. See, I didn't feel it was a grind** because it was thoroughly enjoyable due to the awesome fleet combat system they have created. Also, starting out can be a bit of a grind. Цитата допису Major_Mistake:yeah, if you combine the starsector+ mod with Nerexin you really get a treat of a game.Īnd I agree: it has the best fleet combat around. It feels overwhelming at first, but you quickly get the hang of it. I found myself playing 6-7 hours straight (instead of sleeping), and this hadn't happened for a long time. Lots of different weapons and ships, with a "flux" to manage, think "heat level", as well as shield management. You can have 25 ships at once, and battlefields can have a very high amount of ships at once if different factions are fighting. There's a bit of inertia, but it's not "iceskate in space" for those who hate this, be reassured.

It controls exactly like SPAZ with one option tweak, down to the shift key for turrets. Maybe a lot of people already know about this but in case they don't, here it is. It's not even on Steam, and if it weren't for someone mentioning it in the forum of another game I was looking at for a SPAZ like experience, I would never have heard of it. Since deleting a file is far less work than creating one, I opted all factions in by default.I've looked for games like SPAZ for months, and never found one that would replicate the same feeling.Īnd a few weeks ago I found this game called Starsector,

You can manually opt out certain factions from the modpack by going to Starsector\mods\Super Degenerate Portrait Pack\data\world\factions directory and deleting the respective faction file. This mod will attempt to add the portraits to every possible faction, including almost every mod in existence that's been updated to 0.9.1a. Additionally, I've noticed many, perhaps most, mod packs only support vanilla factions and do not include support for most modded factions. I've been modifying the portrait packs I downloaded to remove outliers in quality and size. It's a merger of basically of every anime-themed portrait pack I could find for Starsector merged into one pack, and just a little bit of curation to remove some of the more blatant outliers in quality/size/etc to make the art slightly more consistent.
